Leadership walkthrough · Chapter 2 of 8

The account and its programme

Every project in PMO Assist sits under an account (the client) and, optionally, a programme (a body of work for that client). Asha creates Northwind Retail and its Digital Commerce programme, and becomes the account's Owner on the spot.

Create the account

  1. Open Accounts in the sidebar. With none yet, the page says so and offers to create one.
  2. Choose New account. It sits at the top right of the page.
  3. Give it a name and, if useful, a description. Use the client's name as people say it: Northwind Retail.
  4. Choose Create account. The account appears as a card. Asha is its Owner automatically.

Add the programme

  1. On the account's card, choose Add programme.
  2. Name it and choose Create programme. Digital Commerce. A programme always belongs to one account.

A programme is optional: a project can sit straight under the account. Use one when a client has several bodies of work and leadership wants to see them grouped.

What "Owner" gives Asha

A role on an account reaches every project under it, without being added to each project. There are four:

Account roleSeesCan also
ViewerEach project's overview, plan (milestones, releases, areas), published reports and team. Not work items or sprints.Nothing: read only. For executives, leadership and sales.
ManagerAll of the above, plus work items and sprints.Create projects under the account. Write and publish its projects' weekly status and delivery reports.
AdminThe same as a manager.Edit the account, its programmes and members, and manage project members.
OwnerThe same as a manager.Everything an admin does, and work on every project under the account as its lead. Only an owner gives or removes the Owner role.
One thing stays with the project

Archiving or deleting a project stays with that project's own owner, the person who created it, or an administrator. Asha leads every project under Northwind Retail, but can archive only the ones Asha created.

The account page

Open the account's name to see its page. Four tabs:

TabWhat it holds
DeliveryEvery live project, worst health first, with a stat row: projects by health, milestones overdue or at risk, releases due in 30 days, projects reporting, blockers open. Then the open milestones and planned releases across the account.
ReportsDelivery reports published under the account: the account's own and each project's.
ProjectsThe projects under the account, by programme.
MembersWho holds a role on the account. Asha is listed as Owner. Add member gives someone a role.

The account is empty for now. Next Asha needs people. Chapter 3.
